Movie History Not Many Know...But You Will Know Now

I discovered a super interesting fact from the entertainment world this past week...

Matter of fact, this one is for the books...

First, it concerns Walt Disney and one of his top cartoon features...An endearing story for all time...

Many of us grew up seeing the flick on the big screen when we were tykes and later on the tube in "living color"...

"Pinocchio" is rated right up there in Disney legend...

Remember Figaro, the cat?  He was a mischievous cat that was always gunning for trouble...

Now here is what not many folks know about the flick...

Originally Figaro had lines...Lots of 'em...Yep, the character spoke...

In the Disney wisdom back then they thought the character would work another way (mute) and I do believe they made the correct editorial choice...

BUT they did have someone voice all the copy and lay down the track before they changed their minds...

Can you guess the FAMOUS voice that was used and never heard?

Friends, remember Looney Tunes with Bugs and Daffy and Yosemite Sam?

Yep, MEL BLANC was the man who was the voice of Figaro the Cat in "Pinocchio"...

Funny thing is that when you see the movie today you still do hear something from Mel...

Figaro burps...

Mel was the all time best cartoon voice bar none...

My personal touch with greatness was back when I was in Junior High in Northridge, California and at the Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) classes at the then Cal State Northridge...

Mel had recently been in a horrific auto accident and nearly escaped death...I remember he was very frail looking but had a terrific tan...

(Acutal Get Well Card Made for Mel After The Accident)

He spoke to all of us about hanging in there and other showbiz stuff...

I personally went up and chatted with him for a bit...

Aside from all the work at Warner Bros and their (then) cartoon factory, Mel worked all the time...

My fav is his appearances on The Jack Benny Show on radio and then TV....

Every Xmas they did the show when cheap stake Jack hunts for gifts at the May Company and runs into a beleaguered Mel Blanc as a clerk...He chooses a gift and then comes back repeatedly to change the card...One year the character Mel played actually goes off camera and shoots himself...It was funny...Even Jack broke up as Mel carries on...

And together Jack and Mel had the classic "Si, Sy, Sue" bit...

A super talent in the annals of show business who only ended up burping in one of the top Disney movies of all time...

The news is good...The news is great...
NFL is back, baby!

The Lock-Out is over!

The agreement is A-OK with the owners and the players so they will be back at it  for the 2011/20112 NFL season...

I can't wait and I know many of my friends and clients feel the same...

Other sports are OK...NBA, MLB, World Cup Soccer...

BUT...

NOTHING beats the NFL...NOTHING!!!

The game is made for TV and when you watch you just can't get enough...

For many in Sin City we have the added bonus of being able to bet on the outcome...

So, they are dotting the i's and crossing the t's and gearing up for another exciting season of NFL action...

Oh, blatant plug time...

If you own or manage a business here in Las Vegas, use ESPN Radio 1100 / 98.9 FM and FOX sports Radio 920 to reach your customers with your message in the NFL and NCAA football games we broadcast throughout the season...Al the way to the Super Bowl...Football action is found here...

Watch!

Things Begin To Get Real STUPID!

Has it come to this...

Consider the current plight of the Los Angeles Dodgers...

The Dodgers, steeped in baseball history and lore...

The Dodgers, local baseball outlet for the show biz folks and fans...

The Dodgers, once a proud winning team with tradition and now a lowly sub par baseball club...

By now everyone knows they have declared bankruptcy...Chapter 11...

Heck, they even owe Vince Scully some bucks...Amazing...Of all people one would think you would take care of him first..

.

OK, what's next?

They need to get their fiscal house in order and MLB has in essence taken over control of the club and it's everyday operations...

Now we come to the crux of the Dodger financial woes...They Need MONEY!

So, some smart folks think up a fun merchandising item...

It is a Dodger jersey with the name Chapter on the rear along with the number 11...Get it?  Chapter 11...

I even wanted to order up one...

Well, MLB steps to the plate and says NO!  They can't sell this jersey because it demeans the game or something like that...

They Need The MONEY!

Wake up MLB...Time to first - get a sense of humor and second - join the "Real World"...

Who do you want to be...The NFL?

p.s.  Do you know how the Dodgers got their name?
